(British Canoe Union) schools of thought, but also from what we have found from
our experiences both personal and professional to be effective, practical, safe,

INTRO TO SEA KAYAKING

lesson covers the fundamental sea kayaking techniques needed to get you started. You will
acquire a basic comfort and confidence level for further developing your paddling skills.
The lesson includes boat fit, equipment, basic strokes and safety
proceedures. Great

For
all ages and abilities. Building on the foundation of part I, we'll add
a few paddling excercises and games. We'll have a closer look at
rescues and safety as well as understanding currents and useing

are your draws?", he asked knowingly. There is no substitute for good
efficient strokes and boat control. Bow rudders, side-slips,
braces, and sculling will increase your blade awareness. Incorporating edging and
leaning will increase your body/boat awareness and control.

INTRO TO SIT-ON-TOP SURF KAYAKING

This class, for complete
beginners,
is a lot of fun and a great intro to wave riding. Flat water
strokes will be introduced and modified to fit the shore break
environment. We will then work on surf zone comfort and progression,
paddling in the 'soup' zone before tackling the 'green' stuff.
Life is a beach, but it's better in the surf. We use Sit-on-Top
Surf kayaks and a roll is not necessary.

of paddling thru the marsh?
Want more fun and excitement? Feeling the need to wear a helmet?
Then this is your class.
You will learn about the anatomy of waves, surf zone dynamics, etiquette, and
hazards. We will also cover launching, landing, and bracing in breaking waves.
Due to a level of skill needed for this lesson, it is a requirement that you are
familiar and proficient in basic 'flat water' strokes. Beginner and
Intermediate Classes available. Great fun.

OPEN
WATER SKILLS DEVELOPMENT (BCU 4 STAR)

This
is a full day of open water sea kayaking, and those with Swifties and Sissies need not apply. The day will consist of an instructional journey of about
6 miles, during which we will practice surf launching and landing, basic navigation,
paddling in a following sea, rough water rescues and towing. The training will be
conducted in winds up to force 4 and up to 3 foot breaking waves. Bring a
change of underwear.

Women
take to kayaking like ducks to water, and often respond better learning from
other women. Kristin offers Intro to Sea Kayaking for beginners, and Intermediate
Kayaking and Sea Kayak Surfing for established paddlers. She also offers a Rolling Lessons for
all skill levels. She's had women rolling in under an hour, so come on
ladies...make your mark!

LEARN
TO ESKIMO ROLL

The
Eskimo Roll is probably the single most important skill to develop if you paddle
solo. It is a great confidence builder and allows you to jump into a whole
new realm of paddling! The roll is learned in a steady progression, pinpointing
and mastering specific techniques, which are then combined to complete the
maneuver. In this lesson, we will work on the more widely used C to C and Sweep
Rolls. Not everyone learns in two hours, but you will take home the tools and
knowledge you need to continue your practice.

to fit your needs...whether it be improving forward stroke, bracing and

paddling skills, awareness of safety issues, and overall comfort on the

COASTAL
NAVIGATION
This
course covers the basic navigation skills of chart reading and piloting. We will
practice plotting a course, taking a bearing, and ded reckoning, and you will be
familiarized with common navigational aides such as buoys and markers. Also
emphasized is how weather plays a factor....thus, tides, currents, and wind are
integrated into the lesson as well. Good seamanship and navigation are
time-honored traditions you'll be glad to know.

GREENLAND-STYLE
PADDLING
Kayaking
with a Greenland paddle is not only a lot of fun, but it can also make you a
better paddler. Greenland style paddling requires greater balance, finesse, and
technique...all things that will translate into your Euro paddling as well. We
will cover strokes, rolls, and how to make your own Greenland paddle!

TANDEM
KAYAK or CANOE
After
paddling 3,000 miles, we are firm believers that a little technique goes a long
way! We offer tandem canoe and tandem kayak classes for both beginners and intermediate. As well
as covering the basic strokes and rescue techniques, we will look at boat-body
dynamics, positioning, and communication. Also covered are design
characteristics and what to look for when buying a canoe or tandem kayak that will be right for
you.

SPECIAL
NEEDS COURSES
We offer all of the above
classes for physically disabled persons. We use double or triple cockpit boats with modified outfitting and equipment when needed.

there is a bunch of you and you all have appropriate boats and gear, your best
option is to hire an instructor. We will come to your private pool, pond, river, or
public beach and tailor a lesson for your group. Whether it's a group of
